It's easier than ever to search for specific (and unique!) job titles

"Hi Amy - last time I looked, there weren't really matches for medical / healthcare, which I'm sure, as you know, is a very granular field. Hoping there is a plan to evolve in that area."
This was feedback I got from a prospective user.
While it's true that our defined job categories focus on the tech industry, we actually have a lot of medical/health jobs. But there isn't a specific "healthcare" category, so you'd need to search the individual titles.
And that wasn't clear, at least not to her.
We went back and forth a bit, she provided me with some job titles, and I shared how to search for them using the freetext title input. She tried it and... success, several promising jobs!
But that isn't scalable.
As much as I love talking and messaging with users, it's not always possible for me to drop what I'm doing to help someone refine their preferences. Also, as a UX professional, I know the solution should be obvious.
We collaborated a little more. What changes could I make that would help users understand that they can enter literally ANY JOB TITLE?
I ended up removing the "Other" option in the Fields section and always displaying the freetext job title. Hopefully, that will clarify that job seekers can and should enter whatever they're looking for, whether we have presorted it or not.
What do you think? Is that better? What else could I change to improve the experience?
I LOVE getting feedback. You won't offend me if you criticize ZenSearch or tell me something is confusing. THAT is how I know what I need to work on.
We have over 308k jobs, so I can't categorize all of them, but if you believe a job segment or field is missing or misclassified, let me know. That stuff is easy to fix.
If you are using freetext job titles, be sure to enter different variations. Sure, you know that "Learning and Development Manager" is the same as "Learning & Development Manager" or even "Learning Manager," but our search doesn't (at least not yet).
It is definitely a little more challenging if you aren't looking for a pre-defined job title, but once you have your preferences, you shouldn't need to change them, unless you want to.
Check us out at ZenSearch.jobs and share our platform with anyone looking for something new. Together, we can make job searching a little more zen.
