Acknowledging the mental health challenges of a job search

Amy

Job searching is tough on your mental health.
There's constant rejection and fear.
I know. I went through a yearlong "streak" where I was being rejected by jobs I'd applied to almost daily. (Who knows why, but I've kept every rejection email)
If you were fired or laid off like I was, you're also dealing with crushing insecurities, embarrassment, and doubt.
I know some of you are getting desperate. Maybe your savings are about to run out. Or have already.
I see it on LinkedIn and Reddit. Posts overflowing with hopelessness. People are overwhelmed and terrified.
I can't fix it, of course.
And I'm not going to tell you everything will "turn around" or "it'll be your time soon" or "everything happens for a reason." For me personally? That's all crap. We just don't know.
But during this month of Mental Health Awareness, I'd like to remind you of a few things:
• You didn't cause this. The job market just sucks right now • You still have all the talent, skills, and experience you had when you were employed • You have the power to greet each day with a smile and a little optimism • Yoga, breath work, and meditation help a lot (and are free on the internet)
Please, take care of yourself, and if you need help, get some.
Namaste (the light in me sees and appreciates the light in you)
