The feedback I get most frequently goes something like this: "When I tried to apply, the job was gone from the company's site."
Unfortunately, it happens.
Here's why.
I don't have to tell you, companies are fickle and HR departments are stretched thin.
Sometimes, jobs are posted without going through all the internal channels. So HR takes them down to get approval.
Sometimes, companies decide they won't fill the role, even after the rec and budget are confirmed. So they close it out.
Sometimes, the hiring team notices a problem with the job description or wants to change the qualifications. So they temporarily remove it to make the edit.
Sometimes, there are so many candidates that they reach an application threshold very quickly. So they shut off the pipeline (often to reopen it if they don't find what they're looking for).
The reason ZenSearch occasionally has a mismatch is that we ingest our jobs a few times throughout the day, and at that point, reflect the current reality. If a company adds jobs, we'll have them, and if they close posts, we'll remove them.
What you might experience is the time between. The company has removed the job, but when we ingested jobs, it was still live.
Oftentimes, the job is back when we next ingest. (That's one reason a job becomes "Reposted.")
Other times, it's just gone. Disappointing, for sure, but somehow better than having it mysteriously disappear after you've applied.
I even experience this myself when putting together the ZenSearch weekly job blasts.
Although there's nothing I can do to fix it, I appreciate it when people let me know that they've stumbled across a "missing job," so continue to tell me by submitting feedback. Maybe I'll even start tracking which companies are the worst offenders.
