Last week, I was preparing to post about reaching 5,000 ZenSearch users. We'd been steadily growing, and I knew we'd hit that target any day. Then something happened.

It was something good. Great actually.

I commented on a LinkedIn post— one that mentioned several job boards, but did not name ZenSearch. So, I introduced it. The OP, , reached out to me to learn more.

We met. I demoed ZenSearch, and she liked it. Enough to post to her huge TikTok and LI followings.

Within hours, we'd surpassed 5,000 users, and shockingly, just two days later, 6,000!

𝗜'𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝟲,𝟱𝟮𝟲 𝗭𝗲𝗻𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀!

Here are some lessons I learned from this situation that you can apply to your job search.

1. 𝗕𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 – Comment and interact with posts on LinkedIn (feel free to start with this one 😂). You never know who will see your comment and what their response will be. It could be an offer to help, like mine was.

2. 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 – Today's job search is all about connections. Don't be shy. Connect and then CONNECT, even with total strangers. People want to do nice things if they can. You do too. Support each other.

3. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂 – I have to admit, after months of sloooowly growing my users, it felt like cheating to get a huge bump. Put that aside and gracefully accept any help when it's offered. Ask what you can do in return.

4. 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 – Waiting to hit 5,000 users to celebrate was a mistake. I was too focused on a round number as a milestone. It's just as valid to recognize 6,526. Any and all positives are worth acknowledging.
