Job searching is tough. Whether you've just applied to your 12th job or 512th, received your 90th rejection, or were ghosted...again. It's exhausting.

What if I told you there's something you can do to clear your head? Something easy, with no cost. Something actually good for you.

    Take a walk.

I don't mean a purposeful walk with an errand to do, or one with a destination. More freeform, aimless, just for the sake of walking.

Maybe it's on a trail in the woods or a boardwalk along the beach. Somewhere you've never walked before, or somewhere you've walked so many times you've memorized the cracks in the sidewalk.

It could be alone, with a pet, or with a friend.

    Be present. Notice things.

Like you, I've got stuff going on. And while I'm making the best I can of my situation, some days are hard, and I need a reset. Walks are perfect for that.

This morning, I walked with a friend. We wandered through the winding streets of a town that dates back to the 1600s. We didn't talk about work, or much of anything really.

I love walking with this friend because she's super observant, pointing out small details along the way. Things that might be easy to miss otherwise. And when she does that, it encourages me to do the same.

To be mindful. To look for beauty. To literally stop and smell flowers.

Today, we appreciated a Neoclassical garden, discovered an unexpected Mediterranean house surrounded by its traditional Colonial neighbors, spotted a dog peeking out from behind some curtains, and enjoyed a magnificent rosebush still wet from an earlier shower.

All things I might have normally passed by, but today I noticed them.

I felt calmer and more relaxed.

Now, back in my house, back at work, the challenges are still there. Of course, a walk can't fix anything.

But it sure is a wonderful break. A chance to escape for a bit and focus on what's outside, not what's going on inside your head.

So the next time you get stressed and overwhelmed, grab your sneakers, silence your phone, and get out there.
